A Grudge

A grudge can pass from person to person
Father to son, mother to daughter
It binds them together in desire for slaughter
Against the hated one

People hate others as an inheritance
That they prosecute without any feeling
Even when their neighbour is kneeling
Or the blood that they spill has no sense

Mercy has no profit and greed wears a crown
They fill the community with friction
They cause the land dereliction
And the motive is to own

They see their neighbour as inferior
They have a grudge that is lawful
It allows them to do what is awful
While maintaining a cool exterior

The grudge flies like a missile
The grudge craws like an assassin
The grudge keeps hidden from those passing
The war to gather the spoil

Mercy in the heart is healing
It stops the violence from growing
The doorway is open with love glowing
To keep peace, to keep good feeling
