Looking for God’s temple

Looking for God’s temple you lay down
There is nothing but the desert all around
Five hundred miles you travelled
A hundred miles to go

You’re hungry too
And now you walk too slow
The night was lit with starlight
Its fingers touched your face

Were you only sleeping or were you sharply awake?
For out there in the wilderness
Alone and out of breath
You thought you were getting near to death

Then there appeared a temple stairway
That angels climbed in the empty air
Each of them came down to sit by you
Then returned

Having found what you were seeking
You marked the place in stones for safekeeping
Out there in the wilderness
You’d made your home
