A land of cactus

A land of cactus
A land of spiky green cactus
Where London is now

When I look out of
my kitchen window
I imagine cactus
Where cars were once parked

What’s happened to people

They are cactus’s

Like in a novel
Where you wake up to find
People turned into cactuses
By man-made disaster

I look into a mirror pool
In the desert
I see reflections
Of a cactus
And looking harder
I can just about see
My clenched teeth
Into the green flesh
