To a Soldier

In 33 BC, Jesus was asked questions by his disciples about the future of Jerusalem and of his second coming as their King. Looking far into the future, he said that, Nation would rise against Nation, and Kingdom against Kingdom and that this was to be a sign to look for.
The times of the Gentiles is a Jewish (Judean) time of having non-Jewish people rule in Jerusalem when they would be without a king to rule over them and they would be trampled over by foreign rule for a period of time, the time of the gentiles.
This time-period lasted for over two thousand years and ends with nation rising against nation. Without going into detail, it’s not hard to see that 2,000 years after Jesus died there was such an event – the 1st world war. The First World War involved great armies from many countries, a new wave of invention in military equipment and great loss of life. The soldiers in the war perhaps didn’t know about this prophecy, and that they were taking part in the “beginning of the end of the system of things”.
He mentions that there would be war, death and plague and the gathering of disciples then the end would come. The 1st world war began as a kind of joke among the generals, but after asking volunteers to join the fight, it lasted for so long and so many people were dying that civilians were conscripted into the army to help win the war.
The Beginning of the End is described also in the book of Revelation as the four horsemen of the apocalypse, the four horsemen ride and then the war comes to an end and a new event takes place the gathering of Jesus’s disciples. This event where the news of Gods kingdom is given to the world is significant because Jesus says that if it were not for this preaching of the kingdom from door to door, the end of the system would have taken place with the end of the 1st world war and God’s Kingdom would have happened straight away. Instead, people were given a second chance to learn and know about Jesus’s prophecy of the Time of the End and the start of his second coming by hearing about from the bible.
Armageddon is the end of the human system, the world that we now live in. Revelation describes how the close disciples of Jesus go to God’s world and when every one of them has been taken from the earth how the angels begin to sound the seven trumpets that lead to the end of the human system of politics and human war. This is why soldiers (and everyone else who love God) leave their careers in the military and work in a peaceful way. Because as the many armies of the human nations get stronger and the technological weapons get deadlier, it is only going to go one way.
