The music box

Taking the ribbon
Out of the music box
A face in the mirrored lid
Of broken fractured strips
A monkey climbs out
Holding a lighted candle

Taking the ribbon
Out of the music box
The music begins to play
Like raining broken glass
The pearls like eyes
The brooch climbs out and runs away

Taking the ribbon
Out of the music box
Connected to the soul
Memories return like lottery balls
To shut the lid
To stop the whole thing from talking

Taking the ribbon
Out of the music box
The ballerina stutters round
The ribbon is entangled now
On the death bed nearby
The cello and the violin are groaning
