The sound of machinery

The sound of machinery
Is the sound of a war
In the deep throbbing sound
The teeth gnash the fodder

Machinery, it breaks apart
It grinds down to dust

Out of its power come cotton threads
Out of its flames come metal plates

Machinery – makes slaves of us
It uses a few and disperses the rest
Machinery
What price have we paid
For machinery

Like demons who suck the heat from the air
Machinery sucks the life out of the land

Trees stop growing
Lapwings stop soaring
Bees do not buzz
Animals withdraw

Instead of the muscle of a bird’s wing
-A turbine jet engine
Instead of the strong heart of a bull
-A mechanised tank

Into every corner of the earth
Cars have left a trail of ruin
Despising what God has made
With machinery
